Mitsumi Makes Noise at the Renowned COMDEX Trade Show

Unleashing the unflappable “PC Mascot” (man’s new best friend) plus Mitsumi makes good on the promises of Bluetooth and 802.11 wireless devices with hot new product lineup

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (November 18, 2002) COMDEX LVCC Booth #10266 Central Hall – Mitsumi Electronics Corp, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of computer peripherals and electronic components, today announced the arrival of its portable panacea “bred” expressly for those plagued by e-mail – PC Mascot.  This parrot-shaped digital assistant is designed to retrieve e-mail, alert users to newly arrived messages, read messages out loud and remind busy users of important appointments.  In addition to the electronic aves, Mitsumi will also unveil a line of Bluetooth modules and USB adapters designed for easy-integration into consumer-level products (such as a wireless car cell phone hands-free kit) and will also introduce home LAN devices that utilize the 802.11b wireless network standard.  These products, which will be showcased at this week’s COMDEX trade show (booth #10266) in the Las Vegas Convention Center, offer the innovation and creativity that has made Mitsumi a leader in the peripherals space.

 Product highlights include:

• PC Mascot (e-mail digital assistant): Affectionately named, Poll-E, this “titanium-feathered” digital assistant makes e-mail fun again.  As soon as he moves, users know new mail has arrived.  He retrieves e-mail, tells you they have arrived, reads them out to you and reminds you of important appointments.  Owners of Poll-E can also get a free e-mail account at www.pc-mascot.com.
  
• Bluetooth Modules and USB Adapters (for consumer devices): Offering an entire line of Bluetooth adapters, Mitsumi offers higher sensitivity, lower power consumption and the most aggressive pricing on the market.  These wireless enablers are designed for quick integration into such consumer devices as cell phones and Bluetooth USB adapters for the PC.  Mitsumi will be showcasing a prototype device called the ‘Bluetooth Car Hands-Free’ which is a wireless device which plugs into the cigarette lighter and allows Bluetooth-enabled cell phone users  unfettered, wireless communication in the car – freeing the driver from the annoyance and potential danger of traditional corded in-car cell communications.
  
• Wavit 11 (Wireless LAN Access Point ): Operating on the clear 2.4GHz Spread Spectrum frequency (and offering transfer rates of 11Mbps) the Wavit11 connects users’ PCs and devices with a compact Wireless Access Point.  Ideal for SOHO and home users, the Wavit11 Easy settings give wireless access to PCs, printers and projectors from anywhere in the office or home — and can also bridge two networks together.  Combine the Wavit11 with a dial-up router or cable/DSL modem, and users can easily access the Internet from anywhere in the office or home.  The Wavit11 supports two wireless LAN standards, IEEE 802.11 and IEEE 802.11b and provides interoperability with other products (such as devices containing Lucent Technologies chips) that support these standards.
