Mouse Frequently Asked Questions

 

1. What is the proper installation of the Mitsumi Wireless Mouse?

 Follow these steps:

1. Install the battery

a. Remove battery cover

b. Place flat ends (negative pole) of the battery against spring

c. Replace cover

2. Connect receiver unit to a 9-pin serial port on your PC.

3. Turn on PC

4. Set the ID code

a. Press the small hole above the LED on the receiver unit with a paper clip the LED will light for about 2 seconds. The receiver unit stays in IDE registration mode for 8 seconds after the LED turns off.

 b. To register the ID, operate the mouse near the receiver unit during the 8 seconds.

 c. The cursor on the screen will move along with the movement of the mouse.

 d. If the ID has not registered properly, the LED will flash 3 times. If this happens, repeat the steps above.

  

2.   What is the software installation of the Mitsumi Wireless Mouse?

  Windows 95 should detect automatically when you reboot the system.

 Loading a mouse driver for Windows 95

    1.Click on Start
   
2.Click on Settings
    3.Select Control Panels
    4.Double click on Add new hardware
    5.Click Next
    6.Select YES - search system for new hardware let Windows 95 or Windows 98 auto-detect the mouse

  Software installation for the Mitsumi Wireless Mouse in the Windows 3.11 environment:

1. Start Windows
2. Insert the Mitsumi driver diskette
3. In Program Manager open the File menu and choose Run
4.
In the test box type: A:WININST (or B:) and click OK
5. Click install command button and follow instructions 

3. How do I prevent this error: "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be Shutdown?” 

Perform the following:

1. Remove the mouse item from Device Manager 
2. Remove the following two lines from the Windows\win.ini file:

                 load=c:\mtmmouse\pointctl.exe

                 load=c:\mtmmouse\mousectl.exe

3. Restart the computer.

 

4.  What do I do if the computer crashes with the hourglass icon?

5.  In the Windows 95 Device Manager, it has a yellow mark by the mouse, how do I fix the problem?

6. Does the Mitsumi Scroll Mouse work with Windows NT 4.0?

Yes. The Mitsumi Scroll Mouse operates in Windows NT.  A driver is not needed.

 

7. What is the warranty on Mitsumi mice and keyboards?

Mitsumi offers a 2-year warranty on Mitsumi mice and keyboards.  If the product becomes defective within that period, contact technical support at 1-800-MITSUMI for information regarding replacement.   

8. Where can I buy replacement balls for my Mitsumi mouse?

Currently, you can not purchase replacement parts for Mitsumi products. 

9. The XWHEEL.EXE program that came with my Mitsumi Standard Scroll Mouse, Driver Disk Version 1.10, is conflicting with the Solitaire program on Windows 98, causing Solitaire to crash with a general protection fault.  Do you know of any solution to this problem?

The 1.10 scroll mouse drive has compatibility issues with your system. You will need to install a different scroll mouse driver.

1.Uninstall the 1.10 scroll mouse drivers. This is done through the Add/Remove program under Control Panel.

2.Go to the Driver and Manual download page on the Mitsumi website

3.Download the latest device driver for Mitsumi Wireless and Standard Scroll Mice. 

10. What is causing the Mitsumi scroll mouse’s cursor to be unstable and move all around the screen in Windows 98?

The scroll mouse driver should operate in Windows 98.  Windows 98 also has a driver that supports it. 

Troubleshoot:

1.Go to Device Manager 
2. Select the CD-ROM drive 
3. Click Properties
4. Go to Settings 
5. Remove the check mark off in Auto Insert Notification

11. Does the Mitsumi PS/2 scroll mouse operate with a USB/PS/2/Infared adapter?

The scroll mouse is not compatible with an adapter.  The scroll mouse must be directly connected to the PS/2 port on the computer.

12. Where do I download mouse drivers for the Mitsumi PS/2 Mouse?

Please contact Mitsumi Technical Support.

For Windows 95 and 98 environments:

Do not install the Mitsumi mouse software. The Windows 95 and 98 operating system should detect the mouse automatically. The mouse drivers are pre-installed with the operating system software.

Step-by-step guide:

    1.Click on Start
    2.Click on Settings
    3.Select Control Panels
    4.Double click on Add new hardware
    5.Click Next
    6.Select YES - search system for new hardware let Windows 95 or Windows 98  auto-detect the mouse

For Windows 3 and 3.11 environments: 

Does not require any Mitsumi software. The mouse should be recognized automatically when booting to Windows 3.x.

For DOS environment:

Loading the Mitsumi DOS mouse driver

Step-by-Step guide:

    1.Start DOS and insert Mitsumi floppy diskette v8.00 this can be downloaded from our site.
    2.At DOS prompt type: A:DOSINST (or B:) and click OK
    3.Follow instructions.

13. The mouse freezes up by locking up my computer and not releasing until I shut down and restart. How do I solve this problem?

1. Go to Control Panel. 
2. Click on Power Management.  In Power Schemes, set it to "Always On". 

3. Select System Standby set to "Never." Select Monitor After to "Never".

14. Windows 98 isn’t detecting my Mitsumi PS/2 mouse.  What is the problem?

Check in Safe Mode and see if you have an old mouse being recognized there.

If you do, remove the old mouse and reboot your system.

The Mitsumi mouse is Plug-and-Play so it should be detected when you turn on your system.

15.  What are the proper Windows 95 installation instructions for the Mitsumi serial mouse?

For Windows 95 and Windows 98 environments:

Do not install the Mitsumi mouse software.

16. The Mitsumi scroll mouse PS/2 is not responding in Windows 95.  What is the problem?

Removing Scroll Mouse Drivers in Registry Editor

1.  Click on Start, Run, type "regedit".  Click on Edit at the Registry Editor.  Highlight Find.  At Find What: type in "mtmouse.com" and press enter.  The registry will search for this driver line.  When the line is found, right click on it and delete it.

 2.  Go back to Edit and click Find Next.  Follow the same procedures above and remove "mouse.ini" and also "mtmse.inf."  This should remove the scroll mouse drivers from regedit.

17. I purchased a MITSUMI scroll mouse.  It has a PS/2 connection.  I purchased a serial adapter.  It is not working in Window 95. What do I do?

The scroll mouse is not compatible with an adapter.  The scroll mouse must be directly connected to the PS/2 port on the computer.

18.    What kinds of software applications are compatible with the Mitsumi scroll mouse?

The following applications are tested to be compatible.  However, compatibility is not limited to these applications.

Simple Scroll function: Microsoft; Office 97, Office 95, Internet Explorer 4.0,      Lotus; 1-2-3 97 version, CC: Mail v 6.02 & v 8.0,  Netscape Navigator v 3.0 & 3.02,      America Online v 3.0

Auto Scroll Zoom: Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer 4.0

 

19. Does the Mitsumi Scroll Mouse work with Windows NT 4.0?

*Problem with NT 4.0 Service Pack 3

 Users of Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3 will notice that the scrolling  functions of the Mitsumi Scroll Mouse do not work.  However, user with Windows 2000 will not have a problem with the scroll function.

 Users of other versions of Windows NT should not have this problem, nor should any Registry updates be necessary.  You should be able to plug in the mouse, turn on your system, and NT will recognize and support the scroll functions.

21. The Mitsumi Wireless Mouse cursor does not move.  What is the solution?

The ID code was not set properly. You will need to uninstall the mouse and reinstall.
