FDD Driver Questions

 

1. Where do I download drivers for my floppy drive?

Floppy drives do not require a device driver. They are automatically detected by the BIOS and OS.

FDD Installation Questions

1.  What is the proper installation of the Mitsumi Floppy Disk Drive?

1. Turn off computer

2.  Locate the 34-pin ribbon cable

3. Connect the 34-pin ribbon cable to the interface port on the back of the floppy drive. The colored stripe on the cable designates pin one. Pin one on the floppy drive interface port is the pin closest to the drive motor

4. Connect Power Supply

5. Turn on your computer and the floppy drive should automatically be detected by the Windows operating system. *** Note *** Floppy Drives require no Windows drivers. The BIOS will automatically detect the floppy drive on boot-up. ***Note***

 

   If Windows 95 or 98 does not detect the floppy drive:

1. Go to Control Panel

2. Click on System

3. Click on Device Manager

4. Click on the plus sign in front of Floppy Disk Controllers

 If there is a yellow exclamation point on the floppy drive, highlight it and click on remove. 

5. Shut down system

6. With system off check all ribbon connections.

Reboot your system and Windows should automatically detect your floppy drive.

 

2. How do I connect the I/F (Interface) and Power cables to the FDD ?

Download the FDD Installation Manual from the Drivers and Manuals page.

 

3. I installed my FDD to my computer, but the FDD's LED lamp is still on.

The I/F (Interface) cable may be connected to the FDD incorrectly.  Please make sure that the RED side of the I/F cable is inserted toward the middle (No.2 Pin) of the FDD.

FDD Operating System Questions

 

1.  After installing the Mitsumi floppy disk drive, I continue to get the request to format a diskette when I am trying to have the drive read a diskette. What is the problem?

1. The ribbon cable is not connected correctly to the floppy drive. Make sure the red edge of the cable is on pin 1. Pin 1 is the pin closest to the motor on the back of the floppy. 
2. If all connections are correct, the drive could be defective.

 

2.  What is Mode 1 and Mode 2 mean on a floppy disk drive?

1m mode formats and stores 720k of data and 2m mode stores 1.44mb.

2m mode is the most common.

 

3.   Windows 95 is not recognizing the Mitsumi floppy disk drive, what is the solution?

 

If Windows 95 or 98 does not detect the floppy drive: 

1.        Go to Control Panel

2.        Click on System

The floppy disk drive is not being recognized by the operating system.

FDD Hardware Errors Questions

 

1. The Mitsumi floppy disk drive’s light stays on even if the drive is not operation at that time.  What is the problem?

 

The ribbon cable is not connected correctly to the floppy drive. Make sure the red edge of the cable is on pin 1. Pin 1 is the pin closest to the motor on the back of the floppy. 

If all connections are correct, the drive could be defective.

2.  After setting up the system's BIOS, I get an error,  “DISK BOOT FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND HIT ENTER.”  I've tried several different boot and system disks (DOS, Windows 95, Windows 98) and none of them will boot the system up.  What is the problem?

 

1.  The BIOS is not set-up correctly. Please call your BIOS manufacture for correct setting.

2.  The floppy drive is defective.

Where can I find floppy disk drive bezels and buttons?

I have a defective laptop floppy drive made by Mitsumi.  Can I purchase a replacement?

Unfortunately, no. The laptop floppy drive made by Mitsumi is an OEM product.* 

*Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) products are not supported by Mitsumi.  Mitsumi manufacturers and license hardware to compliment other manufacturer's equipment and is solely bundled as their product.  We would like to be able to provide support for your product, unfortunately, the product you have is not a Mitsumi supported product.  A portion of Mitsumi's business is producing special products for manufacturers to install in their systems.  We recommend contacting the vendor directly for technical support or respective OEM that the product was purchased from.  The vendor is familiar with the modifications on the product and best qualified to provided support.

 

Does Mitsumi make any SCSI floppy drives?

 

No.   Mitsumi currently does not manufacture any SCSI products.

 

What is the difference between the Mitsumi floppy disk drives D509V5 and D359T5?

 

The D359T5 is a standard floppy drive that reads a double-sided 3.5” inch flexible floppy diskette. 

 The D509V5 is a standard floppy drive that reads a doubled-sided 5.25” inch flexible floppy diskette.

1. What is the warranty period on a Mitsumi floppy disk drive?

 

Mitsumi offers a 1-year warranty on its floppy disk drives. 

 

2.  Can I purchase an extended warranty on the Mitsumi floppy disk drive?

 

No.  Mitsumi does not offer extended warranties on its floppy disk drives.
